The West Wing

i'm sitting here at four in the morning watching the greatest television show ever produced, written, acted or conceived. I am consistently mesmerized by the brilliance of the core ensemble cast of the show, the inconceivably difficult and nearly impossible task of casting such a confluence of personalities into a series that delivers on so many levels, so many powerful performances week after week, so many guest stars that it begins to read as a Who's Who in Hollywood.
There is no way to completely catalog the variety of topics broached on this show, nor is there a comprehensive way to measure its impact on the relevance of the subjects presented simply by restating the viewpoints on it, pro and con, both sides. One may find prejudice in the conclusions reached by the characters, but there is no equivocation in the information: it is balanced and informed, organized to teach and inspire discussion rather than to influence one's opinion. The purpose of this show, i find as i watch through the seven-season series for what might be the seventy-fifth time, is to entertain, but its secondary and arguably the most important aspect is its ability to describe the issues at stake, inform the differences between the opposing sides, and leave the viewer feeling smarter and often more prepared to debate and discuss the subject at hand.
Topical and intelligent, beautifully and powerfully written and acted, designed and delivered with a sense of purpose and an undeniable realism that permeates every second of the Greatest Show Ever. If you don't know, you ought to know...
